Clippings 5.1 beta 2 released!

This is the second beta release of Clippings 5.1, intended for early adopter users who crave the latest and greatest. Users not comfortable trying out pre-release software and tolerating its inevitable bugs should stick with Clippings 5.0 for now.

If you already have a previous release of Clippings installed, you must uninstall it first before installing this release. Because this is a beta release, no automatic upgrades to this release will be available to current Clippings users.

What's New in Beta 2
  • Improvements to compatibility with multi-process browser tabs in Firefox (sometimes referred to as Electrolysis or e10s).  Usage of CPOWs (cross-process object wrappers) have been largely eliminated, improving performance in Firefox
  • Partial fix to the issue in Firefox where placeholder prompts always appeared in a modal dialog, even if the setting to not block browser windows was turned on (issue #57).  This setting will be honored in non-e10s browser windows, but due to technical limitations the setting will be ignored if e10s is turned on

How to Get It

Head over to the Clippings page on the Mozilla Add-ons website, then scroll to the bottom and expand Development Channel.  Click on the yellow "Add to Firefox" button to install it.

Clippings 5.0.1 released!

A minor update to Clippings 5 is now available from Mozilla Add-ons and the AE Creations website.  This update fixes a few known issues, as listed below.

If you already have Clippings installed, it will be upgraded for you if automatic extension updates are enabled. Otherwise, open Extension Manager (Tools → Add-ons), then right-click on the entry for Clippings in the list of installed extensions and choose Find Updates.

What's New
  • Bug fix: In Clippings Manager, cannot move folder by drag and drop (issue #55)
  • Bug fix: The General tab panel of the extension preferences dialog is blank; this was occurring for the Finnish locale only (issue #60)

Things You Should Know About

Clippings now requires Firefox/Thunderbird version 31 or newer.  If you have an older version of either application, you must upgrade it first to install and enjoy the new features of Clippings 5.

Users of Firefox Beta and Firefox Developer Edition: Clippings is not yet compatible with multi-process browser tabs (a.k.a. Electrolysis or e10s) in Firefox.  If you require compatibility with e10s, and are willing to try out beta-quality software, install the 5.1 beta release of Clippings.  Otherwise, turn off multi-process tabs, or open a non-e10s browser window to continue using Clippings.
