Clippings 6.3 release candidate 1 released!

A release candidate of Clippings 6.3 is now available for testers and early adopters craving the latest and greatest! This will become the official release unless any last-minute showstopper bugs are found.

Read on to learn what's new in version 6.3, and how to get it.

What's New

  • Improvements to Clippings Manager. On Windows, Clippings Manager now remembers its window size and position (issue #314)
  • Improvements to support for multiple displays on Windows. Clippings popup windows and dialogs will now be positioned within the browser window from which they were opened, instead of always centered on the primary display (issue #346). This feature is experimental on macOS and Linux, where it is turned off by default
  • New option to skip backup reminders if there were no changes to your clippings since the last backup (issue #324)
  • In Clippings Manager, the Details Pane can be shown or hidden by pressing CTRL+D (Command+D on macOS)

Things You Should Know About

  • Thunderbird Users: This version of Clippings is designed for Firefox and is not compatible with Thunderbird. Get Clippings for Thunderbird, now compatible with Thunderbird 78. A new version of Clippings for Thunderbird is in beta, and will be compatible with the upcoming release of Thunderbird 91.
  • Clippings 6.3 requires Firefox 78 or newer.
  • Some features may not be available when Firefox is in Private Browsing mode, or if the browser privacy settings are too restrictive.
  • If you want to use Sync Clippings, download and install the Sync Clippings helper app. More information and download links can be found on the Sync Clippings page on the AE Creations website. The Sync Clippings Helper app is available for Windows only.

How to Get It

To install this release candidate, head over to the Clippings 6.3 release candidate 1 page on GitHub. Look for the link to clippings-6.3rc1-fx.xpi, then click on it to install.

Current users of version 6.3 beta 3 will be automatically updated if automatic add-on updates are turned on.

To install this beta release, head over to the Clippings for Thunderbird 6.1 beta 2 page on GitHub. Look for the link to clippings-tb-6.1b2.xpi, then right-click on it and select Save Link As, then choose a folder location on your system (for example, the Desktop). Then follow these step-by-step instructions from the Mozilla Support website to install Clippings in Thunderbird.

Current users of Clippings for Thunderbird 6.1 beta 1 will be automatically updated to beta 2 if automatic add-on updates are turned on.

Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0.2 released!

A minor update to Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 has been released and is available for download from the AE Creations website.

If you already have an older version of Clippings for Thunderbird installed, it will be upgraded for you if automatic extension updates are enabled. Otherwise, open Add-ons Manager (from the Thunderbird menu, click Add-ons), click on the entry for Clippings in the list of installed extensions, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Check for Updates.

  • Now available in German
Things You Should Know About
  • Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 is compatible with Thunderbird 78 only. It is not compatible with earlier versions of Thunderbird, nor is it compatible with current beta releases of Thunderbird (version 91 beta 2 is the latest at the time of this post).
  • If you want to use Sync Clippings, download and install the Sync Clippings helper app. More information and download links can be found on the Sync Clippings page on the AE Creations website. The Sync Clippings Helper app is available for Windows only.

Panic Button 4.4 released!

A new version of Panic Button has been released, and is now available for download from Mozilla Add-ons and the AE Creations website.

If you already have an older version of Panic Button installed, it will be upgraded for you if automatic extension updates are enabled. Otherwise, open Add-ons Manager (Tools → Add-ons), click on the entry for Panic Button in the list of installed extensions, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Check for Updates.

What's New

  • New menu options added to the Panic Button toolbar button context menu, allowing you to change the toolbar button in just a few clicks, or go to the extension preferences page. To show the context menu, right-click on the Panic Button toolbar button (issue #61 and #70)
  • New option in extension preferences for snoozing inactive browser tabs when restoring the browser session after invoking the Hide and Replace action (issue #64)
  • When restoring the browser session after invoking the Hide and Replace action, Panic Button will try to restore Reader Mode on those browser tabs that had it turned on (issue #65)
  • The toolbar button icons now blends in better with the Light and Dark themes in Firefox 89 and newer (issue #71 and #73)
  • Bug fix: Container tabs converted to normal tabs when restoring the browser session after invoking the Hide and Replace action (issue #74). This affected users who have installed the Firefox Multi-Account Containers add-on.

Things You Should Know About

  • Panic Button 4.4 requires Firefox 78 or newer.  
  • The Hide and Replace action won't work if Firefox is set to "Never remember history" in Privacy & Security settings.
