Clippings for Thunderbird 5.7.2 released!

A minor update to Clippings for Thunderbird 5.7 has been released and is available for download from the AE Creations website.

If you already have an older version of Clippings for Thunderbird installed, it will be upgraded for you if automatic extension updates are enabled. Otherwise, open Add-ons Manager (from the Thunderbird menu, click Add-ons), then right-click on the entry for Clippings in the list of installed extensions and choose Find Updates.

Please note: Clippings for Thunderbird is not available from Thunderbird Add-ons.

What's New
  • Displays a message when Thunderbird starts up about Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 coming soon
 
Things You Should Know About
  • It is not possible to rearrange clippings and folders in Clippings Manager by drag and drop in the clippings tree. Instead, use the Move toolbar button to select a folder to move or copy to, or right-click and select the Cut, Copy and Paste menu options. To rearrange items within a folder, select the folder, click the Arrange toolbar button, then in the dialog that appears, you can use drag and drop to arrange the items in the selected folder.
  • To display the extension preferences dialog, open Clippings Manager, then select Tools → Options. The Clippings preferences dialog is not accessible from Add-ons Manager.
  • If a shortcut key is assigned to a synced clipping, and the shortcut key assignment conflicts with another clipping, the synced clipping will lose its assigned key in favor of the other clipping.
 
Not Compatible With Thunderbird 78

This version of Clippings for Thunderbird is not compatible with Thunderbird 78.  An upcoming new version will be compatible with Thunderbird 78; testers and early adopters may be interested in trying out the latest beta release.

Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0b3 released!

This is the third beta release of the next version of Clippings for Thunderbird. It is being made available for testing, and although it is the most stable release yet, expect to encounter a few inevitable bugs.

What's New

  • Compatible with Thunderbird 78
  • The Clippings Manager window and the New Clipping dialog have a similar look and feel as the same found in Clippings for Firefox
  • It's now possible to drag 'n drop clippings and folders in the clippings tree list in Clippings Manager. This feature has been broken since Clippings for Thunderbird 5.6 (a separate "Arrange" dialog box was available to rearrange clippings and folders by drag 'n drop), and is finally fixed in version 6.0
  •  New in 6.0b3  Improvements to Clippings Manager help
  •  Fixed in 6.0b3  Clippings Manager and extension preferences page doesn't focus if already open (issue #71)
  •  Fixed in 6.0b3  Don't show Sync Clippings settings if not on Windows (issue #72)

Things You Should Know About

  • Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 is compatible with Thunderbird 78 only. It is not compatible with earlier versions of Thunderbird, nor is it compatible with current beta releases of Thunderbird (version 88 beta 1 is the latest at the time of this post).
  • The option to show a prompt when pasting a clipping containing HTML tags into an HTML-formatted message is no longer available. If you had selected this option in previous versions, the clipping will now be automatically pasted as formatted text.

Synchronizing Your Clippings

If you want to use Sync Clippings, you'll need to download and install Sync Clippings Helper version 1.1 beta 1, now available for testing purposes and is compatible with Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0. If you have it already, you'll need to upgrade to this beta release.

Clippings 6.2.7 released!

Another minor update to Clippings 6.2 for Mozilla Firefox has been released, and is now available from Mozilla Add-ons and the AE Creations website. This update adds support for Ukrainian.

If you already have Clippings installed, it will be upgraded for you if automatic extension updates are enabled. Otherwise, open Add-ons Manager (Tools → Add-ons), click on the entry for Clippings in the list of installed extensions, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Check for Updates.

  • Now available in Ukrainian
  • Bug fix: In New Clipping dialog, can't insert line break in clipping content by pressing ENTER (issue #334)
  • Minor fixes and improvements

Things You Should Know About

  • Thunderbird Users: Clippings 6.2 is not compatible with Thunderbird. You should get Clippings for Thunderbird instead. Clippings for Thunderbird 5.7 is compatible with Thunderbird 68. An upcoming new version will be compatible with Thunderbird 78 -- early adopters may be interested in trying out the latest beta release.
  • Clippings 6.2 requires Firefox 68 or newer, and is compatible with Firefox 78 ESR.
  • Some features may not be available when Firefox is in Private Browsing mode, or if the browser privacy settings are too restrictive.
  • If you want to use Sync Clippings, you'll need to download and install the Sync Clippings helper app. More information and download links can be found on the Sync Clippings page on the AE Creations website. The Sync Clippings Helper app is available for Windows only.

Still Using Firefox 68 ESR?

Upcoming versions of Clippings won't be compatible with Firefox 68 ESR. If you're still using Clippings on this older Extended Support Release, you should upgrade to Firefox 78 ESR as soon as possible so that you'll continue getting future updates for Clippings.

Coming soon: Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0

After a few months of work, I'm ready to announce that a new version of Clippings for Thunderbird is coming soon, and will be compatible with Thunderbird 78.

The first beta release will be made available in the next few days for testers and early adopters craving the latest and greatest. Clippings 6.2.6.1 released!

This update to version 6.2.6 fixes a bug that appeared in this release. It is now available from Mozilla Add-ons and the AE Creations website.

If you already have Clippings installed, it will be upgraded for you if automatic extension updates are enabled. Otherwise, open Add-ons Manager (Tools → Add-ons), click on the entry for Clippings in the list of installed extensions, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Check for Updates.
