Clippings 6.3.1 beta 1 released!

This is a beta release of an upcoming update to Clippings 6.3. It is being made available to testers and early adopters craving the latest and greatest, and are willing to tolerate a few bugs.

Read on to learn more about what's new in this release, and how to get it.

What's New

  • Bug fix: Clippings stops working after changing the "Run in Private Windows" setting (issue #287).  If the Clippings toolbar button is clicked after changing this setting, a message box will appear, instructing you to restart Firefox.
  • Improvements to German localization
  • Other fixes and improvements

Things You Should Know About

  • Thunderbird Users: This version of Clippings is designed for Firefox and is not compatible with Thunderbird. Get Clippings for Thunderbird, now compatible with Thunderbird versions 78 and 91.
  • Clippings 6.3 requires Firefox 78 or newer.
  • Some features may not be available when Firefox is in Private Browsing mode, or if the browser privacy settings are too restrictive.
  • If you want to use Sync Clippings, download and install the Sync Clippings helper app. More information and download links can be found on the Sync Clippings page on the AE Creations website. The Sync Clippings Helper app is available for Windows only.

How to Get It

IMPORTANT! If you're already using Clippings and want to try the beta release, back up your clippings first before upgrading.

To install this beta release, head over to the Clippings 6.3.1 beta 1 page on GitHub. Look for the link to clippings-6.3.1b1-fx.xpi, then click on it to install.

Clippings for Thunderbird now available on the Add-ons for Thunderbird website

Until now, Clippings for Thunderbird was available exclusively on the AE Creations website with downloads served by GitHub. Starting today, Clippings for Thunderbird is also available on the Add-ons for Thunderbird website, making it more visible to Thunderbird users who are browsing through add-ons.


The new web presence on the Add-ons for Thunderbird website provides much of the same information as the AE Creations website, with the additional ability to add a review.  So if you love using Clippings for Thunderbird and want to rave about how much it has made writing emails quicker and more efficient, or if there is something about Clippings that you think could be improved -- add a review!

Clippings for Thunderbird 6.1 released!

Clippings for Thunderbird 6.1 introduces compatibility with Thunderbird 91 and contains several improvements and bug fixes, including a few that are already present in Clippings for Firefox 6.3.  It is now available from the AE Creations website.

If you already have an older version of Clippings for Thunderbird installed, it will be upgraded for you if automatic extension updates are enabled. Otherwise, open Add-ons Manager (from the Thunderbird menu, click Add-ons), click on the entry for Clippings for Thunderbird in the list of installed extensions, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Check for Updates.

What's New

  • Improvements to Clippings Manager. On Windows, Clippings Manager now remembers its window size and position
  • Improved support for multiple displays on Windows. Clippings popup windows and dialogs will now be positioned within the Thunderbird window from which they were opened, instead of always centered on the primary display. This feature is experimental on macOS and Linux, where it is turned off by default.
  • New option to skip backup reminders if there were no changes to your clippings since the last backup
  • In Clippings Manager, the Details Pane can be shown or hidden by pressing CTRL+D (Command+D on macOS)
  • User interface improvements to more closely match the rest of Thunderbird, as well as improved support for Dark Mode system themes on macOS and Windows (requires Thunderbird 91 or newer)
  • Bug fix: First-time backup dialog doesn't regain focus after Save As dialog dismissed (issue #105)
  • Added support for Dutch, French, German, and Portuguese (Brazil)

A third, and hopefully final, release candidate of Clippings for Thunderbird 6.1 is now available for testers and early adopters craving the latest and greatest! Unless there are any more last-minute showstopper bugs, this may become the official release.

This release candidate includes last-minute cosmetic fixes for Clippings Manager and the migration status dialog, which appears after upgrading from Clippings for Thunderbird 5.7 or older.

Panic Button 4.4.1 released!

An update to Panic Button 4.4 has been released, and is now available from Mozilla Add-ons and the AE Creations website.

If you already have an older version of Panic Button installed, it will be upgraded for you if automatic extension updates are enabled. Otherwise, open Add-ons Manager (Tools → Add-ons), click on the entry for Panic Button in the list of installed extensions, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Check for Updates.

Things You Should Know About

  • Panic Button 4.4 requires Firefox 78 or newer.  
  • The Hide and Replace action won't work if Firefox is set to "Never remember history" in Privacy & Security settings.

A minor update to Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 has been released and is available for download from the AE Creations website.

Clippings 6.3 release candidate 2 released!

This is the second release candidate of Clippings 6.3, and it comes with fixes for a few last-minute cosmetic bugs. Unless there are any further issues, this may become the official release of version 6.3.

How to Get It

To install this release candidate, head over to the Clippings 6.3 release candidate 2 page on GitHub. Look for the link to clippings-6.3rc2-fx.xpi, then click on it to install.

If you have version 6.3 release candidate 1, you will need to uninstall it first before installing this release candidate. Remember to back up your clippings first before uninstalling!

Users of version 6.3 beta 3 will be automatically updated if automatic add-on updates are turned on.
