Read Next 1.6 release candidate 1 released!

A release candidate build of the next version of Read Next, the reading list extension for Firefox from AE Creations, is now available for testers and early adopters. Unless there are any last-minute showstopper bugs, this may become the official release of Read Next 1.6.

What's New

  • You can now sync your reading list using Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. Dropbox continues to be available as an option for syncing

How to Get It

If you've installed any of the beta releases of Read Next 1.6, you'll be automatically updated to this release candidate build if automatic add-on updates are turned on in Firefox.

New users can install this release candidate build by heading over to the Read Next 1.6 release candidate 1 page on GitHub and then clicking the link to readnext-1.6rc1.xpi. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Read Next 1.6 requires Firefox 128 or newer.

Sync Clippings Helper 2.0.1 release candidate 1 released!

A release candidate build of an upcoming update to Sync Clippings Helper, a companion application for the Clippings extension for Firefox and Thunderbird that syncs your clippings between computers or multiple instances of those applications, has been released for testers and early adopters who want to try out a much-awaited fix for Windows.

Unless there are any last-minute showstopper issues, this may become the official release of Sync Clippings Helper 2.0.1. 

What's New

  • Bug fix: On Windows, Sync Clippings Helper isn't correctly initialized for Firefox and Thunderbird for all users on the same PC
With this fix, the Sync Clippings Helper app will only need to be installed once, and all users on the same PC will be able to use Sync Clippings, even if they aren't Administrators. 

Things You Should Know About

This version is for Windows only, and is compatible with Windows 7 and newer. Sync Clippings Helper 2.0 is the latest version for macOS and Linux.

How to Get It

Get the Sync Clippings Helper setup program for Windows from the Sync Clippings Helper 2.0.1 release candidate 1 page on GitHub.

On Windows, the Windows Defender SmartScreen dialog may appear when launching the setup program. Rest assured that it's perfectly safe to proceed with the installation. To allow the setup program to run, click More Info, then Run Anyway.

Clippings for Thunderbird 7.1 release candidate 1 released!

A release candidate build of the next version of Clippings for Thunderbird, the extension from AE Creations that lets you save frequently-entered text for later pasting into email messages, is now available for testers and early adopters who are craving the latest and greatest! Unless there are any last-minute showstopper issues, this build may become the official release of Clippings for Thunderbird 7.1.

What's New

  • New placeholders for the email subject line, message sender and recipients: $[SUBJECT], $[FROM], $[FROM_NAME], $[FROM_EMAIL], $[TO], $[TO_NAME], $[TO_EMAIL], $[CC], $[CC_NAME] and $[CC_EMAIL]. Add them to your clippings in Clippings Manager by using the Placeholder Toolbar
  • New option to paste an HTML-formatted clipping into an HTML message as plain text
  • Brought back the option to show the Paste As dialog when pasting an HTML-formatted clipping, a feature that existed prior to Clippings 6.0
  • The Paste Options dialog, which lets you choose between normal or quoted text whenever a clipping is pasted into the message composer, has been replaced with a new toggle option in the compose toolbar button context menu, named "Paste As Quoted Text"
  • Improvements to undo in Clippings Manager. Also, you can now reverse the last undo ("undo undo") by pressing Ctrl+Y on Windows, ⇧⌘Z on macOS, and Ctrl+Shift+Z on Linux. The F2 keyboard shortcut is still supported
  • Eliminated the confirmation dialog that appeared when reloading the Synced Clippings folder in Clippings Manager
  • Clippings will now display an error message if the Sync Clippings data size exceeds the limit of 1 megabyte

Compatibility

Clippings for Thunderbird 7.1 is compatible with Thunderbird 140 and newer. It is not compatible with Thunderbird 128 ESR.

To install this release candidate, head over to the Clippings for Thunderbird 7.1 release candidate 1 page on GitHub. Look for the link to clippings-tb-7.1rc1.xpi, then right-click on it and select Save Link As, then choose a folder location on your system (for example, the Desktop). Then follow these step-by-step instructions from the Mozilla Support website to install Clippings in Thunderbird.

Users of the previous beta releases will be automatically updated to this release candidate if automatic extension updates are turned on in Add-ons Manager.

What's New

  • New option to paste an HTML-formatted clipping into an HTML editor as plain text
  • Brought back the option to show the Paste As dialog when pasting an HTML-formatted clipping, a feature that existed prior to Clippings 6.0
  • The height of the preview pane in Clippings Sidebar can now be adjusted
  • Improvements to undo in Clippings Manager. Also, you can now reverse the last undo ("undo undo") by pressing Ctrl+Y on Windows, ⇧⌘Z on macOS, and Ctrl+Shift+Z on Linux. The F2 keyboard shortcut is still supported

If pasting doesn't work, copy the clipping from Clippings Manager or Clippings Sidebar by right-clicking on it and selecting Copy Clipping Text. You can then paste the clipping into the web page by selecting Paste from the browser context menu. 

Compatibility

Clippings 7.1 is compatible with Firefox 140 and newer, as well as Firefox 140 ESR.

Panic Button 5.1 release candidate 1 released!

A release candidate build of Panic Button, the Firefox extension from AE Creations that quickly hides your browser windows from curious eyes, is now available for testers and early adopters craving the latest and greatest! Unless there are any showstopper issues, this may become the official release of Panic Button 5.1.

  • If the Panic Button action is set to Hide and Replace, tab groups will be recreated when the browser windows and tabs are restored

  • Panic Button 5.1 requires Firefox 139 or newer.

  • Panic Button won't work if Firefox is set to "Never remember history" in Privacy & Security settings.

Read Next 1.5 release candidate 2 released!

This is the second release candidate build of the next version of Read Next, the reading list extension for Firefox from AE Creations. This build fixes a cosmetic issue in the extension preferences page. Unless there are any further last-minute issues, this may become the official release of Read Next 1.5.

How to Get It

New users can install this release candidate by heading over to the Read Next 1.5 release candidate 2 page on GitHub and then clicking the link to readnext-1.5rc2.xpi. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

If you've already installed the first release candidate, follow the same instructions to update to release candidate 2, since automatic updating won't be available.

  • Links can now be renamed. To rename a link, right-click in the reading list sidebar and then select Rename in the context menu
  • Improvements to navigation and scrolling of the reading list using the keyboard
  • New links are now highlighted in the sidebar when they're added
  • When showing only unread links in the reading list, links will now be automatically shown or hidden as their unread status changes when clicked or navigating to them in the browser

macOS users on Intel Macs: Sync Clippings Helper 2.0 release candidate 2 now available!

This is the second release candidate of the next version of Sync Clippings Helper, a companion application for the Clippings extension for Firefox and Thunderbird that syncs your Clippings data between computers or multiple instances of those applications. This version supports the enhancements to the Sync Clippings feature in Clippings 7.0, the next version of the Firefox and Thunderbird extension.

This release candidate was originally available for Linux only, but it's now available as well for macOS on Intel Macs.

What's New

  • Sync Clippings Helper 2.0 is now compatible with macOS versions going back to 10.15 Catalina

Things You Should Know About

  • Because there are no changes to the Sync Clippings Helper app, and the app installers for Windows and macOS on Apple Silicon Macs are not affected, the second release candidate is only available for Linux and macOS on Intel Macs. Testers who are using Windows and macOS on Apple Silicon Macs can continue to use the first release candidate build.
  • Sync Clippings Helper 2.0 is backwards compatible with older versions of Clippings.
  • If you're installing Sync Clippings Helper using the setup shell script, make sure that Python 3 and the Tkinter package (python3-tk) is installed on your system. The setup script will check for those dependencies and will inform you if they aren't found.

Unless there are any last-minute showstopper issues, this build may become the official release of Clippings 7.0.

What's New


  • Copy clipping text to the clipboard from Clippings Manager or the new Clippings Sidebar
  • You can now add separators to organize your clippings in the Clippings menu. Separators can be added in Clippings Manager by right-clicking on a clipping or folder and then selecting Insert Separator from the context menu
  • Brought back the ability to create a clipping from the contents of the clipboard in Clippings Manager (Tools → New From Clipboard). This finally brings back a feature that existed in Clippings prior to version 6.0
  • New option to show the shortcut key of a clipping in the Clippings menu. Turn on this setting from the redesigned extension preferences page
  • New placeholder for embedding a clipping in a clipping. Placeholder syntax: $[CLIPPING(Name of clipping)].
  • On Linux, the option to minimize the Clippings Manager window when it's inactive is now turned off by default. Quickly turn it on or off by clicking the Minimize When Inactive icon on the status bar
  • Sync Clippings enhancements: sync data is now compressed, allowing you to sync more of your clippings; also, improved handling of read-only sync files

Things You Should Know About

  • The version number of this release candidate build will appear as 6.999.1 in Add-ons Manager.
  • Additional extension permissions are now required for some features. When turning on Sync Clippings or performing actions involving the clipboard for the first time, a message box will appear, indicating the extension permission requested and how to grant it. If you're upgrading from an earlier version of Clippings, the necessary permission for Sync Clippings will already be enabled.

Compatibility

Clippings 7.0 is compatible with Firefox 128 or newer, as well as Firefox 128 ESR.

The Sync Clippings enhancements require an upgrade of the Sync Clippings Helper app. The release candidate build of Sync Clippings Helper 2.0 is now available.
