This is the second beta release of the next version of Clippings for Thunderbird.
It is being made available for testing, and although it
is fairly stable, expect to encounter a few inevitable
bugs.
Read on to learn more about what's new in this release, and how to get it.
What's New
- Compatible with Thunderbird 78
- The
Clippings Manager window and the New Clipping dialog have a similar
look and feel as the same found in Clippings for Firefox
- It's now possible to drag 'n drop clippings and folders in the clippings tree list in Clippings Manager. This feature has been broken since Clippings for Thunderbird 5.6 (a separate "Arrange" dialog box was available to rearrange clippings and folders by drag 'n drop), and is finally fixed in version 6.0
- New in 6.0b2 In the New Clipping dialog, you can now preview the clipping when applying the options to create as unquoted text or remove extra line breaks
- Fixed in 6.0b2 Missing tooltips in New Clipping dialog and Clippings Manager window (issue #62)
- Fixed in 6.0b2 Various UI improvements
Things You Should Know About
- Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 is compatible with Thunderbird 78 only. It is not compatible with earlier versions of Thunderbird, nor is it compatible with current beta releases of Thunderbird (version 87 beta 3 is the latest at the time of this post).
- The option to show a prompt when pasting a clipping containing HTML tags into an HTML-formatted message is no longer available. If you had selected this option in previous versions, the clipping will now be automatically pasted as formatted text.
Known Issues
- Clippings Manager and extension preferences page doesn't focus if already open (issue #71)
- Display issues when using Dark Mode system theme (issue #74)
How to Get It
IMPORTANT! If you are already using Clippings and want to try the beta release, back up your clippings first before upgrading.
Users who have installed version 6.0 beta 1 will be automatically updated to this second beta release, if updating add-ons automatically is turned on in Add-ons Manager.
If you are installing Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 beta for the first time, head over to the Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 beta 2 page on GitHub. Look for the link to clippings-tb-6.0b2.xpi, then right-click on it and select Save Link As, then choose a folder location on your system (for example, the Desktop). Then follow these step-by-step instructions from the Mozilla Support website to install Clippings in Thunderbird.
Synchronizing Your Clippings
If you want to use Sync Clippings, you'll need to download and install Sync Clippings Helper version 1.1 beta 1, now available for testing purposes and is compatible with Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0. If you have it already, you'll need to upgrade to this beta release.
Download links can be found on the Sync Clippings Helper 1.1 beta 1 page in GitHub. The Sync Clippings Helper app is available for Windows only.
