With this release candidate, Clippings for Thunderbird is getting one step closer to being available for Thunderbird 78.
This release candidate is being made available for testing, and will become the official release unless any last-minute showstopper bugs are found.
Read on to learn more about what's new in this release, and how to get it.
What's New in Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0
- Compatible with Thunderbird 78
- The
Clippings Manager window and the New Clipping dialog have a similar
look and feel as the same found in Clippings for Firefox
- It's now possible to drag 'n drop clippings and folders in the clippings tree list in Clippings Manager. This feature has been broken since Clippings for Thunderbird 5.6 (a separate "Arrange" dialog box was available to rearrange clippings and folders by drag 'n drop), and is finally fixed in version 6.0
- In the New Clipping dialog, you can now preview the clipping when applying the options to create as unquoted text or remove extra line breaks
- Available in Dutch and Portuguese (Brazil)
Things You Should Know About
- Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 is compatible with Thunderbird 78 only. It is not compatible with earlier versions of Thunderbird, nor is it compatible with current beta releases of Thunderbird (version 88 beta 3 is the latest at the time of this post).
- On Windows 10, the keyboard shortcut for pasting a clipping using its shortcut key has changed -- it is now ALT+SHIFT+Y. The old shortcut CTRL+ALT+V still works on Windows 7. The macOS shortcut Command+Option+V is unchanged.
- The option to show a prompt when pasting a clipping containing HTML tags into an HTML-formatted message is no longer available. If you had selected this option in previous versions, the clipping will now be automatically pasted as formatted text.
How to Get It
Head over to the Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 release candidate 1 page on GitHub. Look for the link to clippings-tb-6.0rc1.xpi, then right-click on it and select Save Link As, then choose a folder location on your system (for example, the Desktop). Then follow these step-by-step instructions from the Mozilla Support website to install Clippings in Thunderbird.
Cannot Upgrade From Beta Release to 6.0rc1
If you've been trying out the previous beta releases, uninstall Clippings for Thunderbird first before installing this release candidate. Do NOT install this release candidate over a beta version -- this is an unsupported upgrade scenario, and will result in errors.
Before uninstalling, back up your clippings if you have any data you want to keep.
This only affects users who have installed Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0 beta releases 1, 2 or 3. Upgrading from Clippings for Thunderbird versions 5.6 or 5.7 will be supported.
Synchronizing Your Clippings
If you want to use Sync Clippings, you'll need to download and install Sync Clippings Helper version 1.1 release candidate 1, now available for testing purposes and is compatible with Clippings for Thunderbird 6.0.
Download links can be found on the Sync Clippings Helper 1.1rc1 page in GitHub. The Sync Clippings Helper app is available for Windows only.
